Vatral Kuzhambu

Manathakkali / Sundakkai vatral- 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tbsp
Sambhar Powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
Tamarind- a big lime size
Salt to taste

To Saute:
Gingelly oil- 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tbsp
Cumin seeds- 1/2 sp
Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 tbsp
Asafoetida- 1/2 tbsp
Curry leaves- 10 leaves
Bengal gram- 1 1/2 tbsp
Red chillies-3

1.Soak the tamarind in warm water for 15 Mins and extract its juice.
2. Heat a pan and pour the 2 tbsp of gingelly oil.
3. Add the mustard seeds and when they splutter add the cumin and fenugreek seeds
4. When they start to turn to light brown colour add the Bengal gram, red chillies, curry leaves, asafoetida along with the vatral. Fry them for few minutes
5.Add the tamarind juice with the sambar powder and salt
6.Let it boil for a few minutes
7.When the gravy is thickened, pour the remaining oil and wait for a minute and turn off the flame

Serve this with hot rice, ghee, pappads!
